Rivers, Not Reservoirs
The “Site C Dam” is a proposal by B.C. Hydro for a large-scale earth fill hydroelectric dam on the Peace River (The third on this particular river). The resulting reservoir would require the flooding of approximately 5,340 hectares of land including wildlife habitat, heritage sites, and prime agricultural land and the flooding of 100 km of river valley along the Peace River and its tributaries.
Two weeks ago we were able to paddle this beautiful stretch of water and as we passed through the proposed “Site C” area, we spun the canoe around and looked back upstream.
My wife sighed and said “It’s sad to think that we may not be able to take our future kids down there. That it won’t exsist. That the river won’t be there.”
We spun the canoe back downstream.
“I sure hope they know what could be lost.”
I paused
“Most of them have probably never even seen it.
