“Guaranteed” – Jeff Tweedy
decisions don’t come easy in our house. the weight of pros and cons, only useful for so long, rendered meaningless after awhile. for the sake of sanity, we flipped a coin to see what the gods had to say on the matter. the caribou meant north, we pointed the truck that way.
yukon bound.
seventeen hundred kilometers there, just as many on the return. plenty of road for a truck starting to show its age. plenty of silence to fill for a marriage doing the same.
bad weather and worse wind had us putting imaginary pins on mental maps to mark places we’d like to return to on some future tomorrow.
we fished here and there, and paddled when we could. but mostly we drove. through summer, and into fall, then right through to winter.
and we talked, until we couldn’t any longer or shouldn’t anymore. and then all we heard was the ever-increasing whine of an alternator on its way out.
but we made it home
may we always make it home.
we will always make it home.
Great photos, Blaine!! And I always love your life tales
I’m glad you enjoy them.
Thanks for always taking the time to read them, truly.
Can’t speak for anyone else , but to me the yukon is a special place.
Kintsugi: often the repairs are more beautiful than the original. May you always make it home.
